Geelong’s VFLW side remains unbeaten after a dominant display against Seaford Tigerettes at Ray Menzies Oval in Ocean Grove on Saturday.
The Cats were simply too quick around the stoppages, controlling play for most of the match, and won 11.7 (73) to 4.2 (26).
Ocean Grove local Hannah Burchell put on a show for her home crowd, booting two goals and was best on ground in the 46-point victory.
Former Supercat Anna Teague was again impressive in defence, while Lily Mithen and Maddison Janssen were also key contributors.
However, Jordan Ivey suffered a knee injury after being tripped in the centre square in the first quarter.
Ivey lay on the ground for two minutes while play continued around her before being helped to the bench.
Although she didn't return to the field, Cats VFLW coach Paul Hood is confident she’ll be available after next week’s bye.
“Structurally, her knee is fine. By the time we had it assessed we were five goals up and we just thought if we held that lead there was no need to put her back in the game and risk it further,” Hood said.
With last week’s best on ground sidelined early, several Cats rose to the occasion and Hood admitted picking the six best was a challenge for coaching staff.
“Cassie Blakeway had an outstanding game, she was terrific in the middle winning the ball out and starting our attack from there.
“Hannah Burchell, in her game back home, kicked a couple of goals and was terrific with her inside and outside balance, winning the hard ball but then breaking up lines too so we were really pleased.
Hood praised the team for its effort on a wide and physically demanding oval, and was pleased with the side’s improvement on last week.
“We’ll continue to work on our ability to move the ball cleanly. It got better today, we attacked a lot better than we did last week against Box Hill, but we still want to make the most of all our opportunities so we can compete against the good sides,” Hood said.
There is a competition bye next weekend, then the Cats will return to take on Eastern Devils on Sunday May 28 at Mulgrave Reserve.
