Who… has had a better first two seasons than Tim Kelly?
The commentary team pondered the question as Kelly glided through another breath-taking performance. The West-Australian’s 35 touch effort was just one below his career-high mark, in yet another sparkling display that defies his experience.
Where… are you hiding the fountain of youth Gary?
Just as remarkable as Tim Kelly’s second season is Gary Ablett’s 18th. The football the Little Master is producing so deep into his career is nothing short of extraordinary. All the pre-season talk suggested we should expect familiar flashes of brilliance from reduced touches up forward, but at 20 touches and two goals a game we’re getting our cake and eating it too. Ablett is the oldest man to average 20 and two after 10 rounds.
When… will Tom Hawkins lose a one-on-one?
The Tomahawk has been a man possessed in the last few weeks, out-bodying countless defenders on his way to three successive bags of four goals. The man mountain now sits second for both goals, forward 50 marks and goal assists league-wide.
Why… did Jordan Clark slip to pick 15?
With pace to burn and the courage to match, Jordan Clark again suggested the Cats might have found a bargain at pick 15 of the National Draft. Clark twice ran back with the flight of the ball and led the league with five running bounces this round. With just nine games under his belt, there should be plenty of good footy ahead of the young Cat.
What… a design.
The Quinton Narkle designed Indigenous guernsey has to be high on the list of the best jumpers pulled on by the Cats. Incorporating elements of the different language groups that have come together at the Geelong Football Club, the guernsey was the perfect example of an Indigenous jumper done right.
How… deadly is Mitch Duncan?
Two weeks, six goals. Mitch Duncan has hit a mid-season purple patch as the experienced mid settles into a role outside of the centre square. With a new mix of midfielders rotating through the mix, Duncan has found himself of the end of scoring chains rather than at the start, and the Cats are reaping the benefits.
