CATEGORY B rookie Blake Schlensog knew more about Cats head coach Chris Scott than most when he came to the club at the end of the rookie draft in November of last year.
In fact, the 18-year-old Cat had previously spent time at the Scott residence, even if Scott didn’t know it himself.
“I actually did landscaping and I worked at his house. (So I knew) he (Scott) was a good bloke,” Schlensog told the Geelong Advertiser.
“I don’t think he knew (who I was), but I said g’day to him a couple of times.”
Schlensog arrived at the Cats through the club’s Next Generation Acadmemy, after the Geelong Falcons tall and indigenous talent took his game to a new level in 2018.
A mobile tall for his size with good skills and aggression in the contest, Schlensog received a call up to the Victoria Country U18 squad and finished fourth in the Falcons best and fairest last year.
Standing at 198cm and 99kg, Schlensog played mostly forward and ruck for the Falcons, but will try his hand in defence for the Cats.
“I’ve started a new position, so I just want to learn as much as possible about the position and my role,” he said.
“I’ll be playing backline most of the year, it’s something very cool. I’ve never played backline in my life, but I’m loving it.
“I am watching a lot of my edits and I’m learning from the older boys like Harry (Taylor).”
