He might not be part of Geelong's so-called Holy Trinity, but Mitch Duncan continues to make a case to be considered among the game's elite midfielders.
In 2018, the 27-year-old has moved up 22 places to rank 33rd overall in the Schick AFL player ratings.
While his season has not reached the heights of 2017 when he finished second in the best and fairest, Duncan is building nicely into the pointy end of the season.
In the past four rounds he leads the competition for metres gained assisted, with his total of 1914.7 more than 100 clear of second-ranked Bulldog Lachie Hunter (1812.4).
In the same period, he is averaging 27.5 disposals (8.3 contested), six marks, 3.8 inside 50s, 3.3 tackles, 2.8 clearances and two goal assists.
His pin-point disposal and ability to hit up forwards on the lead with precision make him a barometer for the Cats.
When he plays well, Geelong usually wins and the statistics back that up. The Cats have a 10-3 record when Duncan collects 25+ disposals in 2018.
With a career best disposal average against the Suns (28.57) that record looks set to move to 11-3.
In a midfield containing Gary Ablett, Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood it is easy to forget Duncan’s influence, but his form will be decisive in helping determine how far the Cats can go in 2018.
