Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield helped the Cats secure another 100 point win on Saturday against the Suns in the build-up to the finals series.
Dangerfield made up for his inaccurate start to the game finishing with four goals and 34 disposals in a best-on-ground performance.
It was his contribution throughout the midfield and his delivery forward which helped cement Geelong’s campaign going into the first round of finals.
“It’s important we all perform, once that all rolls around you can’t just flick a switch, you have got to make sure in the lead up to it that your performing well collectively and individually,” Dangerfield said.
That collective team performance was on show at GMHBA Stadium with the Cats having 12 individual goal kickers.
The 28-year-old is confident the diversity of goal scorers for Geelong is “important” and reinforces the team effort that was needed and will be tested for next week’s Friday night match against the Dees.
Geelong now has a week off due to the conclusion of the home and away season. However, this will only be seen as a small break from the club to “freshen up” by Dangerfield, as the boys plan to continue routine as normal and maintain the momentum gained into the finals.
“We’ll still treat the weekend as if we are playing a game,” Dangerfield said.
“It is important that we continue to keep the legs rolling and build the momentum we’ve built over the last two games.”
It is Dangerfield’s positivity that will be reinforced throughout the club over the next few weeks to help support the team in yet another finals series.
“It was a good way to finish the season in front of the home crowd”, Dangerfield said.
“There’s some real positive signs heading into September and that’s why we play the game.”
The Cats will face the Dees in the first Elimination Final at the MCG on Friday 7 September.
