Geelong VFL captain Tom Atkins is keen to move as quickly as possible, but won’t dwell over the 91-point loss to Casey in the qualifying final.

Speaking to the Geelong Advertiser, Atkins said his side would thoroughly review what went wrong, stating that the Demons outnumbered his teammates at the contest and were cleaner.

“We certainly don’t want to get our heads down or dwell on it too much, but it was a good wake up call for us,” he said.

“There are a lot of points that can be taken from the game on how we want to play next week.”

Casey had 70 more disposals and 23 more marks than Geelong, showing that they were able to control the football a lot better.

Atkins was also impressed by Casey’s tackle pressure and it showed on the stat sheet as they laid 14 more tackles than Geelong.

“Their tackling pressure was very good. We knew going in that they like to outnumber at the ball and tackle pretty well, but I certainly think that they took it to another level on the weekend and we weren’t able to withstand the pressure how we would have liked.”

Despite missing key midfielder Jordan Keras due to injury, Atkins wasn’t using that as an excuse to the lacklustre performance at the contest.

“We should be able to win games without certain players,” he said.

“We just need to back the system rather than the personal we’ve got because we know it’s an ever-changing thing, the people we’re going to have on the field.”

The Cats will look to strengthen their defence by recalling one or both of Callum Mitchell and Sam Siggins to take on Box Hill in the knockout semi final on Sunday at Stannards Stadium (North Port Oval).
