GEELONG will open its 2019 campaign with a baptism of fire, facing off against last year’s grand finalist Collingwood under the Friday night lights of the MCG.

The AFL has revealed the Cats and Pies will face off on Friday, 22 March at 7:50pm AEDT, in the second match of the round behind the traditional Thursday night matchup between Carlton and Richmond.

Saturday of the opening round sees Melbourne take on Port Adelaide at the MCG, Adelaide play Hawthorn at the Adelaide Oval in Chad Wingard’s potential Hawthorn debut, the Western Bulldogs play Sydney and Lachie Neale and the Lions play West Coast.

Dylan Shiel looks set to face his old team in his first match in the red and black as the Bombers take on the Giants at Spotless Stadium, while the Saints play the Suns and Dockers face North Melbourne.
