Star off-season recruit, Luke Dahlhaus is feeling rejuvenated and excited by what he can contribute for the Cats in 2019.
Speaking to the Geelong Advertiser, Dahlhaus has been one of the standouts on the training track since returning for pre-season.
The 26-year-old looks set to play a vital role in attack, with his pace and goal sense, as well as the pressure he applies on opposition defenders one of the main reasons he was brought to GMHBA Stadium.
“It has only been two or three weeks, but I have been working pretty closely with Corey Enright, the forward coach, and having some conversations with him to try to learn as much as I can about the forward line and how we play,” Dahlhaus said.
“He was obviously a super star player and it has been good to have some conversations with him.
“I knew him a little bit because I trained here for a week about eight years ago, and Scarlo was at the Doggies for a while so I am already pretty close with those blokes, and Nigel Lappin is a superstar as well, so I am just trying to have as many conversations with those guys and Scotty to learn about the game style and how they do things.
“I would like to play a bit of midfield as well, but I think it will mostly be in the forward line and pinch hit in the midfield.
“It is obviously a pretty strong midfield here, so I am just happy to play my role and if that is down forward that is fine.”
The 2016 premiership player believes the Cats can contend for a flag in 2019.
“I think this group has been capable of doing it for a couple of years now and it is just about getting it all together on the big stage,” Dahlhaus said.
“I think there has been some disappointing losses in finals in previous years but hopefully with some guys coming in like me and Gary (Rohan) we can really help the team push into getting into the grand final, and if not winning it.
“So, I definitely feel like we will be out to go all the way, that is for sure.
“It has been good to see some of the older guys and how hard they work. It has only been a couple of days (that everyone has been back training) but you see some of the names that are here, and it is quite ridiculous. But I am just happy to be here, and I will be learning a lot of them.”
