We take a look at which Cats are in the selection mix for our Elimination Final against the Dees at the MCG on Friday 7 September.
Lachie Fogarty (26 disposals, seven tackles)
Fogarty’s pressure around the ball was a focal point of his performance as he presses for a recall. Laid a game high seven tackles, which was double any of his teammates.
Charlie Constable (33 disposals, five marks, one goal)
The first-year midfielder is a good chance to make his debut in the finals series after collecting 33 disposals. His outside run and transition was a highlight of his game as he continues his outstanding form.
Jordan Cunico (32 disposals, 10 marks, two goals)
Cunico put his hand up for a recall with a 32 disposal, two goal game. His outside speed and ball use is very classy and his ability to break lines is crucial to his game.
Zac Smith (16 disposals, 23 hitouts, one goal)
Smith continues to put his hand up for the ruck spot in the seniors and did his chances no harm with 16 disposals and 23 hitouts against Box Hill. Has another opportunity this week to press claims to take on Max Gawn in two weeks’ time.
Esava Ratugolea (10 disposals, two marks)
Big Sav will play VFL again this week to get some more match fitness and will be pushing hard to make an AFL return against Melbourne in the Elimination Final. Despite playing only eight AFL games so far, he is so important to Geelong’s forward structure.
Jackson Thurlow (20 disposals, seven marks, eight rebounds)
The half back put in another consistent performance in the final VFL home and away game. Was the go to man to set up Geelong’s attacking forays with eight rebounds. Four tackles as well highlighted his pressure.
