Few footballers have experienced the sensory overload that comes with taking a shot after the siren to win a match.
Zach Tuohy became one of those last Saturday night, and took listeners of the Cats' Official Podcast inside the moment this week.
The most surprising revelation came in the form of a comment from Scott Selwood.
“I was lying on the ground and I was like, I know (the siren) it’s about to go. I really don’t want it to go as I’m dropping it, just go now so I know,” Tuohy told ‘To the Final Bell’.
“When the siren did go I was just thinking this is pretty cool. Even if I miss it’s a pretty cool experience.”
It was at that point Selwood attempted tried to put the Irishman in the right mental space.
“What I thought was said was – even if you miss this we’re all here for you. A nice little message. It actually turned out that was Blitz who said that.”
“What Scoot said was – no pressure but if you miss our season is cooked,” Tuohy said.
Selwood believes the quip was just what Tuohy needed leading into one of the most important kicks of his life.
“He’s probably right and I didn’t quite pick up on it at the time, but he reckons knowing my personality it would have calmed me down,” Tuohy said.
“I’m kind of flat I didn’t hear it because I would have had a little giggle going back. I would have been much less nervous.”
