Tim Kelly has made an instant impact only two games into his AFL career and looks set for a bright future at the Cats.
On debut he collected an impressive 27 possessions and kicked a goal, then backed up that performance by being named in the best against the Hawks.
Speaking on the Fox Footy Podcast, expert analyst David King compared Kelly to a young Daniel Wells.
“Tim Kelly will be the best first-year player in the competition by panels,” King told the Fox Footy podcast on Tuesday.
“Get some vision of a young Daniel Wells, who runs exactly the same as Tim Kelly. He’s got that precision by foot where the ball’s flat — yet it’s not a bullet, it’s just a markable-type kick.
“He always gets the ball in the corridor, he’s always in a dangerous proposition when the ball’s in his hands, he’s an elite decision-maker and he wants the footy … he wants to impact.
“I think this kid’s going to have an amazing impact on this midfield.
The 23-year-old is set to return to his home state to play West Coast at the new Optus Stadium on Sunday.
Kelly was drafted to the Cats with pick 24 in the 2017 AFL Draft.
