Ollie Dempsey's teammates and coaches continually remind the footballing world that he will one day take mark of the year.

His incredible leap and athleticism was on full display against the Crows, soaring over the top of an Adelaide defender to take a spectacular grab, before kicking a crucial goal at a pivotal point of the match on Thursday night.

It is not only his aerial abilities that set Dempsey apart, but his running prowess on the wing allows him to cover plenty of ground offensively and defensively to help the team.

Dempsey spoke about his role and his skill set, when he joined 3AW following Geelong's epic win over the Crows at Adelaide Oval.

"I am set for it all the time, I tell the boys to kick it there and I will be there," Dempsey remarked on 3AW's Thursday night wrap.

"I know I drop half of them but I will take a couple in between, I was thankful that I actually took one tonight which was nice.

"I think Scotty and Kingy give me a bit of a licence to play the wing role how I see it.

"It is a little bit more offensive, but also being able to get back and defend. Just running all day, you know how the wing is and getting up and down the ground.

"I am really backing my instincts, the coaches back me in and let me play which is really nice."

Dempsey was full of praise for the Cats defensive unit on Thursday night, against one of the most potent attacks in the competition.

Coming into the match averaging 125 points per game, Adelaide raced to 72 points by the main break before Geelong applied the clamps, holding the Crows to just four goals after half time.

The performance was even more impressive considering the key personnel missing from Geelong's back line, Dempsey noting that they had a big influence on the end result.

"So good, that back six is amazing," Dempsey said.

"Coming in Scotty harped on the point, we know their forwards are unbelievable and they were going to score a lot of points.

"But we knew that Essendon scored 100 points against them earlier in the year, so we felt like we were able to do the same. We obviously did not want to let them score too much, so we locked down in the second half and spoke about the defensive side.

"Missing 'Stewy' hurt and Jack Henry, Kolodjashnij as well but those boys back there stepped up in a big way. Zach Guthrie stood up again and Connor O'Sullivan in his sixth game, he is looking so composed back there."

Geelong will enjoy a slightly extended break before they return to action in round six, taking on Hawthorn in the traditional Easter Monday blockbuster at the MCG.
