As Chris Scott touched on in his post-match press conference on Saturday, his team could easily be 1-2 after three rounds.

But the Cats have made the most of some lucky breaks and find themselves unbeaten and in third place on the ladder behind Adelaide and Richmond.

Saturday's win over Melbourne was certainly a roller-coaster affair, with Geelong starting strongly before faltering in the second and third quarters.

If the Demons had kicked straight, the game would have been just about out of the Cats' reach at three-quarter time.

However, the Dees had a serious dose of the yips, a problem made worse by the fact that Geelong's sharp-shooters rarely missed.

For the second week in succession, a sensational goal right on the three-quarter siren lifted the Cats when they needed it most.

Against North Melbourne in round two it was Tom Hawkins who slotted a team-lifting long bomb.

On Saturday, Daniel Menzel repeated the dose, sending the Cats to their huddle with a spring in their step.

Geelong then piled on six goals to one in the last quarter and won by 29 points.

It was a great way for James Parsons to celebrate what was quite an impressive debut.
