Geelong Cats president Colin Carter and chief executive Brian Cook hit the streets earlier today to sell The Big Issue magazine in central Geelong.
The pair were involved in The Big Issue’s CEO Selling campaign and joined over 100 well-known business and government leaders by strapping on the bum bags and selling copies of the popular magazine.
The campaign is part of International Vendor week, a global initiative that recognises the work of 10,000 people selling street paper in 35 countries around the world.
Working alongside local Big Issue vendor Shane, Cook and Carter sold magazines whilst interacting with the local community, shining a spotlight on the magazine’s homeless and disadvantaged vendors.
Both Carter and Cook have previously been involved in giving back to the community, Carter through his support of Ladder to tackle youth homelessness and Cook through community-based service Wombats Wish. The two are always looking to get involved and show their support for community initiatives and The Big Issue’s CEO Selling Campaign was no exception.
“At the Cats we are proud of our own community programs and look for every opportunity to give back, so I’m glad Colin and I could contribute in some small way today,” Cook said.
“It was a great opportunity to put our hands up for the challenge and hopefully the campaign can assist in reducing negative stereotypes around homelessness and disadvantaged people.”
