GEELONG free agent Dan Menzel would be happy to sign another one-year deal with the Cats but he doesn't expect contract discussions to begin with the club until mid-year.
The 25-year-old said he is comfortable enough with his body and form to back himself to be playing his best football in the next five years when he expects to move beyond 100 career games.
Having made an amazing return from four ACL operations late in 2015 Menzel told KRock he had no fears that he would once again suffer an ACL injury.
"I would be comfortable with another one-year deal. I think it is important to back yourself in these situations and I don't have any issues about doing an ACL again," Menzel said.
The talented 25-year-old kicked 33 goals in 18 games in 2016 and has been in outstanding form in the first five games this season kicking 15 goals before being rested for Sunday's clash against Collingwood.
His absence was felt on Sunday, as the Cats were less efficient inside 50 against the Magpies.
Menzel has signed one-year deals in the past three seasons as he made his comeback and said he understood why as all parties wanted to see him get some continuity into his football.
He said despite being a free agent he was happy to wait.
"To be honest I have played five games. I have not given it much thought and I don't think the club has either," Menzel said.
"It's more 'go out and enjoy your footy' and maybe around the byes [or] round 12 [then it's] probably after that point where you start talking with your manager and talking with the club."
Menzel said he was very confident he would only get better as he played more games with his 50-game milestone just four games away.
"I'm okay with whatever we work out and if it is one year it is one year. I look at myself and go I'm playing some okay footy at the moment but I think I will actually get better over the next couple of years," Menzel said.
"I still haven't played 50 games yet. It will be nice to play my best footy in 50- 100 plus [games]. I am happy with where it is at."
