Zach Guthrie and Sam Simpson have been promoted to Geelong's senior list.

The decision was announced on Thursday afternoon just prior to Guthrie, who showed some great form in the JLT Community Series earlier in the year, being named to make his AFL debut against Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.

Simpson was named as an emergency and could come into the team if Joel Selwood, who has been named in the side to take on the Giants, fails to full recover from the concussion he suffered last weekend against Fremantle.

Guthrie and Simpson have replaced Quinton Narkle and Josh Cowan on the Cats senior list.

Narkle (out for the season due to a knee injury) and Cowan (sidelined by an achilles problem) have been placed on the club's long-term injury list.
