It’s been eight weeks since Greater Western Sydney shocked the Cats in the nation’s capital.
In that time, the Giants’ premiership credentials have only improved whilst chinks have begun to appear in the Cats’ much-hyped armour.
Until a fortnight ago, the 13-point round two defeat in Canberra was the only blight on an otherwise perfect win-loss record for the Cats – and following losses to Collingwood and Carlton in as many weeks, Geelong now faces the arduous task of rectifying its deficiencies against a young side who has proven to have its measure.
The Giants’ chances of victory have already been bolstered by the news co-captain Phil Davis will return, having recovered from a three-week hamstring injury in time to line-up on Cats' power-forward Tom Hawkins.
The revolving door of Giants' defenders continues however with Adam Kennedy a confirmed out due to a shoulder and back injury following a heavy fall late in the Giants’ loss to Adelaide in round 10.
He will almost certainly be replaced by 2015 Cleo Bachelor of the Year Matt Buntine who himself missed the 22-point loss to the Crows with concussion – but is a key to the Giants’ defensive unit.
Others in the selection mix for senior coach Leon Cameron include exciting forward Will Hoskin-Elliott, who kicked two goals in his first game back in the NEAFL from a quad injury, and draftee Matthew Kennedy who has been in consistent form with another 24 disposals at reserve level and was named first emergency for the senior side in round 10.
As for those on the chopping block, midfielder Jack Steele didn’t see much of the ball against Adelaide with only 11 disposals and Rhys Palmer was also quiet with 12.
With two potential changes, here is how the Giants are predicted to line up in round 11 against the Cats:
