The Cats have launched their Country Game guernsey, which honours the region’s primary producers.
The guernsey, to be worn by the Cats for the round four Country Game against Essendon, pays tribute via the traditional hoops to four key industries including:
Bottom hoop – Livestock
The fence that sits on the bottom of the jumper represents livestock farming, including dairy farming, which is the backbone of the south-west region.
Middle hoop and back of jumper font – Wool
They say Australia once rode on the sheep’s back and it is the Geelong region that truly represents this. From the Dalgety & Co. Wool Stores to the National Wool Museum, Geelong celebrates the wool industry and the role it has played in building our nation.
Upper hoop – Wine
While a relatively new industry to the Geelong region, some of the world’s best wine grapes are grown on the Bellarine Peninsula, which is now home to a number of wine producers, including the renowned Jack Rabbit winery.
Side of guernsey – Wheat
Grain growing has been a huge part of Australia’s agricultural history and continues to be one of our key rural industries. The wheat stalk on the side of the guernsey represents our nation’s many grain growers, who are using technological advances to ensure Australia remains one of the world’s foremost grain producers.
