Geelong's oldest living player, Alex Mathieson, has turned 95 and remains fighting fit.

Recruited from Geelong league club Newtown and Chilwell, Mathieson played seven games and kicked one goal for the Cats in 1944, but his career was cut short by military service.

All these years later, he still loves keeping himself active by reguarly going to a gym near his home in Melbourne.

"It was funny the other day, one of the physiotherapists said a bloke who was 44 came in and said he’s giving it away, it’s too hard," Mathieson told the Geelong Advertiser last week.

“She said, 'What? I’ve got a bloke who’s 95 coming in twice a week.'"
