Geelong have named a strong team for their season opening match, as they head up the highway for a clash with Sandringham on Sunday afternoon.

Announced earlier today, the Cats will be led once again by Dan Capiron who will captain the team in 2025, also named at full back this weekend.

Sunday's team will also feature plenty of AFL experience, including the likes of Mitch Duncan and Rhys Stanley who have both been selected to take on the Zebras.

Shaun Mannagh has been named on a half forward flank, while Jack Martin is also set to feature in his first official game for the Cats.

No stranger to the Geelong VFL team, Joe Pike will play his first game as an AFL-listed player, joined by fellow 2024 draftees Patrick Retschko and Jay Polkinghorne.

In total there are 10 AFL-listed players named for the Cats on Sunday, as they look to start their season on a positive note.

There are plenty of returning VFL-listed players set to take on Sandringham this weekend, including the likes of Osca Riccardi, Marcus Herbert and Patrick Hughes.

Nathan Kreuger will also pull on the Hoops once again, returning to the Cats VFL program after spending three years with Collingwood.
