Well, the Powercor Country Festival prior to Saturday night's clash with Essendon was a huge success, with thousands of people enjoying the entertainment in Yarra Park during the afternoon and evening.
From a Geelong perspective, however, the pre-game festival was the best part of the day, as the match against the Bombers was a disappointing affair.
The Cats were off the pace early and, apart from a brief fightback in the last quarter, never really recovered.
For the third game in a row, Geelong conceded 100 points but failed to reach that mark itself.
But amid the disappointment, we must dip our lids to James Kelly, who celebrated his 300th game in classy style.
Bringing his son onto the ground in an Essendon jumper and Cats beanie was a very nice touch from a man who played in three premierships while wearing the hoops.
The downside was watching Kelly play a key role in the Bombers' victory.
Having been undefeated after five rounds, Chris Scott's team is now 5-3, with games against three premiership contenders, the Western Bulldogs, Port Adelaide and Adelaide, to come.
But there are exciting times ahead, as those games against the Dogs, Power and Crows are all at Simonds Stadium.
And they should be grand occasions, as they will be played the new Charles Brownlow Stand giving the stadium a bold new look and giving players, coaches and fans access to some of the best facilities in the nation.
The new stand, described as a "game-changer" for the club by chief executive Brian Cook, will be officially opened on Friday night prior to the Cats taking on the Dogs.
So we want to leave Saturday night's game behind and instead look ahead to what should be a landmark event for Geelong.
