JOEL Selwood has put the heat on the Cats to improve in a hurry after their 44-point loss to Fremantle on Sunday left them 0-2 after two rounds.
It is the first time Geelong has lost the first two matches of a season since way back in 2004.
"[It's] unfamiliar territory, especially for me," Selwood told CatsTV after the defeat at the hands of the Dockers.
"This is my ninth year and I've never been in this position."
But Selwood has urged Geelong fans to stick by the team during the coming weeks when it meets Gold Coast and then North Melbourne at Simonds Stadium.
"It's a challenge," he said. "I just say stay on board because we've played two pretty good sides first-up.
"We've got a lot of work to do to catch those sides.
"We're going to come up against some good sides in the next couple of weeks too, so we've got to be ready and we've got to understand that we have to improve."
