The success story of Mark Blicavs looks likely to continue at the Cats for many years according to his father and manager, Andris.

Speaking to Fairfax media yesterday, Andris Blicavs declared his out-of-contract son will more than likely remain a Cat for the remainder of his AFL career.

“To me whether he signs now for one, two, three or five years is immaterial, I think at the end of Mark’s career I would find it highly unlikely he would be anywhere other than Geelong,” Andris told Fairfax.

The former steeplechaser has enjoyed a breakout first half of the season, stamping his authority on the competition as a versatile utility.

True to the person Mark is and according to his father, money is not his motivation.

“If Mark’s motivation is to make the most money he can get out of football and set himself up for life then he would not sign and go on the open market, but that is not his motivation. His motivation is he is in a good environment, he likes the team and the club has been good to him.

“Mark could hawk himself around in the market place and some clubs might offer him over the odds based on potential. Do you want to be the highly paid player in a lowly team paid highly on potential and expected to perform?

“I might be wrong, he might sack his agent and do something else, but I think Mark will have a long career, he loves the club and I think the way the club has handled its players is as well as I have seen any sporting organisation do it.”

Blicavs has played 56 games for the Cats since debuting in round 1, 2013.
