LUCKLESS midfielder Josh Cowan will attempt to restart his career when he lines up in Saturday's VFL game against Essendon at Simonds Stadium.

Cowan made his long-awaited AFL comeback earlier this season against Collingwood, but injured his hamstring in the opening minutes.

The 24-year-old has spent the past two and a half months fighting his way back to full fitness, and he has now been declared ready to play.

"He's completed a good three weeks of full training – no issues there," Cats physio Mark Young said on the round 17 episode of nib Medical Room.

Other players discussed on the latest episode of nib Medical Room are:

* Nathan Vardy (fit to play in the VFL this week)

* Jared Rivers (knee)
