The VFL Cats have named a 27-man squad ahead of their round 4 clash with Collingwood in Bendigo on Saturday night.
Midfielder Jarrad Jansen will return for the Cats after suffering a hamstring strain in the practice match series and Tom Read also returns after being managed last week.
Two of Bendigo’s own, Matthew Farrelly and Tom Cole, will play in front of their home crowd this weekend.
Farrelly, who was recruited by the Cats after two seasons with the Bendigo Gold, will return to his old stomping ground.
Farrelly has played 38 senior VFL matches in his career for only 2 wins, both being with the VFL Cats over the last fortnight. Throughout the VFL practice match series and the first two weeks of the season, Farrelly has been one of the Cats’ most consistent performers.
Cole, from Sandhurst and the Bendigo Pioneers U18, will line up as the Cats’ 23rd player on Saturday night. Currently a member of the AFL Academy, Cole trained with the Cats throughout the pre-season and is set to play predominantly through the midfield and half-back line on Saturday night.
Co-captain Ryan Williams will miss the match after suffering an ankle sprain in last week’s 8-point win over Richmond. Scans during the week have cleared Williams of any serious damage and he will be a chance to return next week.
The VFL Cats also lose Hamish McIntosh and Billie Smedts who sustained injuries in last week’s win. McIntosh tore a tendon in his calf and Smedts broke his collarbone, both are expected to miss up to two months of football.
