The Cats will be looking to significantly grow their membership over the coming years as they look to strengthen their off-field position.
Speaking to the Geelong Advertiser, Geelong chief commercial officer Justin Reeves said the club would be improving on the member experience as a whole.
“We’ve got big aspirations of where we want to go with our membership in the next couple of years,” Reeves said.
“I think we need to be able to play with the big boys with 60,000 and 70,000 members in the next five years, that’s for sure.”
Despite missing finals for the first time since 2006, the arrival of some Patrick Dangerfield, Lachie Henderson, Scott Selwood and Zac Smith has provided a boost to fans and the club alike.
“When you look at it, last year was the first time we missed the finals in 10 years and people are probably more excited now than they have been for two or three years,” Reeves said.
“It’s not just around Patrick, but the other recruits and also the other players on the list — the Mitch Duncans, the Josh Caddys — and where they’re heading.
“Where the list is at, with the age-games profile, we’re looking like one of the sides in the AFL that’s capable of achieving something hopefully.”
And whilst the Cats support is spread across both Australia and overseas, the Geelong region will remain a focal point in growing membership.
“We think there’s real growth in the Geelong area,” he said.
“We think for a long time there’s been a misconception that we’re sold out (at Simonds Stadium), that we’re full.
“We think Melbourne has also got massive potential and we also think the whole southwest corridor is huge.”
