DRAFTEES Dean Gore and Jordan Cunico have both signed one-year contract extensions that tie them to the Cats until the end of the 2017 season.

Rookie-listed ruckman Tom Read has also been handed a new one-year deal, which guarantees he will remain at the Cattery next season.

Gore was selected by Geelong with pick 55 in last year's national draft.

He made impressive progress on the training track over the summer, then played in the NAB Challenge game against Gold Coast in Townsville.

But his development was briefly halted by a shoulder injury that sidelined him during May and June.

Since returning to the field, however, the powerfully-built midfielder has been among the Cats' leading VFL performers.

"I know I've got a lot of work to go to get to the next level," Gore told geelongcats.com.au.

"I'm doing a lot of extras to get there.

"You can always improve. All the best players in the competition are still trying to improve, so there's always things you can work on."

Gore has worked closely with development coach Shane O'Bree.

The 19-year-old South Australian has also been mentored by a number of the senior players.

"I've spent a bit of time with a lot of the midfielders, like James Kelly, Jimmy Bartel and Joel Selwood," he said.

"They're all really willing to help you out."

As for when Gore might break through and make his AFL debut, the man himself is not getting hung up on the matter.

"I've just got to keep putting the work in, and if I get the chance to play I'll give it a real crack," he said.

Cunico was selected by the Cats with pick 59 in last year's national draft.

The 19-year-old lightly-framed midfielder from Traralgon in Gippsland has also battled his share of injuries this season.

A knee problem sidelined him for a number of weeks, but he has been an impressive contributor in the VFL in recent times.

His contract extension has capped off a positive few weeks.

"It's great for me to have an extra year to showcase what I can do for the club," Cunico said.

"Hopefully I can repay the faith they've had in me."

Read, who was Geelong's first pick in last year's rookie draft, has played 10 games in the VFL and kicked seven goals.
