“Why not us?”
With three simple words in his post-match press conference, Chris Scott gave an insight into the belief that this Geelong team possesses.
It’s the kind of belief that comes when players like Gary Ablett and Joel Selwood walk through the corridors at GMHBA Stadium.
The kind of confidence that comes with a team that has Tom Hawkins performing at the absolute peak of his playing abilities.
Despite its youth, this Geelong outfit also has a wealth of players that have been there and done that.
The kind of players that know once September rolls around it doesn’t take much more than a surge of momentum and a bounce of a ball to become the next Richmond or Western Bulldogs.
Chris Scott is a subscriber to the theory.
“I don’t see any reason why we can’t be the team that hits a hot streak,” he said after Saturday’s win over the Lions.
“We’re just excited at the prospect of having a good swing at it.”
And what better chance to take a swing than with a shot at the reigning premiers on Friday night.
If the Cats are serious about being ‘that team’ in 2018, it can start under the lights of Friday night footy.
“I’m actually in the camp – it’s a small camp – that believes they (Richmond) can be beaten,” Scott said.
“And why not us?”
