The Geelong Football Club, through the generosity of its members, supporters and the community, has reached the $1 million target of the Geelong Cats Community Challenge.  In successfully reaching the ambitious target, the club’s 10 flagship community programs are now underpinned for future generations.

The Geelong Cats Community Challenge kicked off at 1pm on Thursday, and concluded at 1pm today.

Every dollar raised goes directly to the Geelong Cats Community Foundation which supports the club‘s 10 flagship community programs that focus on building a better and healthier community with a special focus on youth.

Geelong’s Chief Executive Brian Cook thanked all those that contributed to the historic fundraising initiative.

“Making a difference in our community is at the heart of what we do,” Cook said.

“We are extremely proud of our 10 flagship community programs. In generating these funds, we will ensure the long-term viability and strength of these programs. To everyone that donated and who supports our work in the community space, we say thank-you.

“Throughout this process, it has become clear to us all that the work we undertake in the community is valued and appreciated not only by those that directly benefit, but also by our members, supporters and the wider community.

“We aim to be more than just a football club, and the multi levelled programs that we run fulfil that goal.”

The $1 millionth dollar was raised with one hour and forty seven minutes remaining in the 24 hour window. The total raised through the 24 hour period was $1,012,071, with 1,110 individual donors.
