Last weekend Geelong’s AFLW team travelled to Anglesea for their pre-season camp ahead of the 2020 season.
It was an action-packed three days beginning on Friday night with a team dinner in the coastal town of Torquay.
Saturday morning the girls headed to Anglesea Football Club where they completed a lengthy training session in the sunshine before heading to the picturesque Anglesea beach for some salt water recovery.
A high ropes course in the afternoon pushed the girls to new heights and the team finished the day in a relaxed fashion with some individual goal setting around a campfire.
Sleeping in on Sunday morning wasn’t an option as the team had a Q&A session with Geelong men’s players Tom Stewart and Tom Atkins scheduled straight after breakfast.
The two Toms answered questions relating to their unique journeys into the AFL and provided insight into the men’s program.
The final activity of the weekend was a team leadership and values session. These values will be drawn upon by the girls across the remainder of the season.
Coach Paul Hood emphasised the importance of the players getting to know one another off and on the football field.
“I think it’s a fantastic opportunity for the players to come together and bond a little bit, spend a bit more quality time to get to know each other and build up that unity amongst the group,” said Hood.
“Obviously there’s a great chance to train too, we had a terrific session this morning, the Anglesea footy ground just looks amazing.
“We got a really good performance benefit out of it, now’s a chance just to get to know each other and spend some quality time together without the pressure of having to stress over footy.”
