Geelong midfielder Sam Menegola believes the game will be even quicker when play resumes in the 2020 season.

With the likelihood of shorter games coupled with shorter breaks between matches, Menegola has ramped up his training regime during the shutdown.

“I think it will be super quick,” Menegola told Channel 7 news.

“You have to protect yourself from injury and make sure you have high speed metres in your legs to protect yourself from calf and hamstring injuries.”

Menegola has been bike riding and also doing ball work with Joel Selwood during the shutdown.

Being paired with the skipper has ensured an intensity in those kicking sessions.

“There are no easy ones,” he said of training with Selwood.

“He is good like that and keeps you very honest in training.”

The talk of restricted hubs has been on the agenda this week, and for Menegola it would force a difficult decision.

His wife Emma is due to give birth to the couple’s first child in the next month, with a potential quarantine hub potentially forcing him away from his family.

“I’m super excited to hold him for the first time and get into the dad life. (With the hubs), until there is a proper proposal it’s hard to plan, but I am open minded.”
