Going by last Saturday night’s performance against the Dockers, the Cats back line could be the answer to this year’s finals’ campaign.

According to AFL Journalist Adam McNicol, the Cats defence force is playing a brand of footy that could easily export them to a grand final stage.

There’s no evidence to think otherwise, especially when you’ve got players like Harry Taylor breaking career bests, Andrew Mackie adding to the scoreboard, Tom Lonergan containing key forwards and Corey Enright and Jared Rivers playing their positions close to perfection.

“Well it’s an amazing thing to have a back line like Mackie, Taylor and Enright,” McNicol told Cats TV.

“Taylor was clearly best on ground with his 19 marks, half the time it looked like Freo were kicking it to him the other night but the other half of the time it was Harry’s unbelievable uncanny ability to read the play, not only to read the play but then to take the mark.”

Saturday night against a powerful top four forward line, Taylor managed to smuggle nine contested possessions and four contested marks. Whilst Mackie shot through to the front of the pack and added two crucial goals to kick-start the Cats lead.

“Geelong’s back line is an amazing weapon because it can really restrict the opposition… and it also has the ability to push forward and do some damage on the scoreboard,” McNicol said.

“So to be honest, right now that is the form segment of the team and that is the bit of the team that could push them back into the top two and all the way to a grand final.”
