Both Geelong and Western Bulldogs fans will get a rare treat at Simonds Stadium on Sunday when they get to see both their VFL and AFL sides play at the same venue on the same day.

While the AFL match promises to be an enthralling encounter, the VFL match up is no less mouth watering. The high flying Footscray Bulldogs sit in 2nd position with 8 wins and 3 losses while the 9th placed VFL Cats (6 wins, 5 losses) have won 3 of their past 4 matches and breathed some life back into their 2014 season.

VFL premiership player Jackson Sheringam joins first year players Darcy Lang, Jarrad Jansen, Jake Kolodjashnij, Jarrad Jansen and Michael Luxford on the list of incoming players for the Cats.

Due to the AFL side not being finalised until 5pm Friday, the entire 7 man AFL interchange bench of Shane Kersten, Josh Caddy, Travis Varcoe, Jed Bews, Brad Hartman, Jordan Murdoch and Billie Smedts has been named in the 31 man squad.

Torquay defender Paul Burchell was this week added to the Cats VFL list will replace Stephen Bensted as the Cats nominated 23rd player. Burchell trained with the Cats during the pre-season and then continued on as a member of the development squad. After a number of injury setbacks early in the season, the former Geelong Falcon has been in tantalising form with the Tigers.

Taylor Hunt (groin) and James Toohey (managed) are a this stage the only confirmed ‘outs’ from the side that defeated the Northern Blues by 71 points last weekend.

After going through an amicable divorce from former partner Williamstown, the Footscray Bulldogs are enjoying a terrific first season as an AFL stand-alone outfit. Despite losing 3 of their first 5 matches, the Doggies soon found their feet and will this week be looking for their seventh victory on the trot.

The Chris Maple coached line up seems to have the perfect mix of experience and talent throughout and are lead superbly by VFL listed players Nick Lower, Jordan Russell, Lukas Markovic and former Cat Brent Prismall.

When you combine these names with AFL listed players such Brett Goodes, Tom Young, Tom Williams, Tom Campbell, Ayce Cordy, Lin Jong, Christian Howard and Jason Johannisen, it is easy to see how the VFL Dogs have become one of the most formidable sides in the competition.

The Western Bulldogs seven man interchange bench of Jarrad Grant, Mitch Wallis, Jake Stringer, Jackson MacRae, Jason Tutt, Mitch Honeychurch and Fletcher Roberts has been included in the extended squad.

The match kicks off at 1.00pm, with the gates will open at 12.50pm. All patrons will be required to have an AFL ticket to enter the stadium.

For all Cats fans that cannot get to Simonds Stadium on Sunday, the match will be tweeted live, so follow @GeelongVFL on Twitter for all the action including live scores, stats updates and photos.
