Cats announce football appointments
Geelong has announced a series of new appointments in its football department
Geelong this week announced the appointment of Steve Hocking as General Manager of Football, and the Cats have continued to revamp their football department, with a number of new staff coming on board ahead of the 2015 season.
Scott Murphy has been appointed as physical performance manager. Murphy was most recently the high performance manager for the Australian rugby team. He is currently in Europe with the Wallabies and will join the Cats upon his return from the four test tour.
Murphy brings over 20 years of experience in his field, and has been with the Wallabies since 2013. He has been successful with across multiple sports, and also worked with rugby clubs, Bath (2004-2008) where he enjoyed a European championship success and Saracens (2008-2013) including their 2011 premiership. Murphy has experience within the AFL industry with the Brisbane Lions and was also a member of the coaching staff for the Australian 2004 Olympic Games track & field team.
Terry Condon will work with the club’s academy players (first – third year) as performance manager - academy. Condon has most recently worked as sports rehabilitation specialist and consultant at the Australian Institute of Sport, and he has also worked with the Wallabies and Richmond Football Club.
Dr Drew Slimmon will move into role of head doctor. Slimmon has been one of the club doctors for the past two seasons and steps into the senior role. He has vast experience within the industry having also worked with Hawthorn and marries his medical expertise with a long playing career in local football.
Damian Raper will add his expertise to the medical unit as physiotherapist. Raper was previously the rehabilitation co-ordinator at Essendon and spent a year with the Australian Institute of Sport.
The Cats 2011 premiership captain Cameron Ling will also take up a role as an off field player development consultant, working mainly with the club's senior players on a needs basis.
