It is more good news for the Cats at the selection table with injured quarter Josh Caddy (foot), Mitch Brown (shoulder), Jordan Schroder (calf) and first year rookie Michael Luxford (concussion) all being named in the team to take on the emerging Coburg Lions at Piranha Park on Saturday afternoon.

Of the inclusions Caddy is no doubt the headline story after breaking his foot at training on the 17th of April. The impressive young utility had made an impressive start to the 2014 season and was fast becoming a key component in the Cats midfield structure.

With the AFL Cats side not being finalised until 5pm Friday, the entire seven man AFL interchange bench of Mathew Stokes, Travis Varcoe, Mark Blicavs, Taylor Hunt, Jesse Stringer, Brad Hartman and Darcy Lang have been named in the 31 man squad.

VFL listed player Luke Bath has also been added to the squad and Drysdale defender Stephen Bensted has been named as the Cats 23rd player after an impressive debut against Port Melbourne last weekend.

After separating from the Richmond Football Club in the off-season, the Coburg Lions have been one of the feel good stories of the 2014 VFL season.

Some ‘experts’ predicted that the Lions would struggle in their first season as a stand alone club, but they have proven their doubters wrong, winning 3 of their past 4 matches in impressive fashion. The Lions are coached by former Williamstown and two-time WAFL premiership coach Peter German and lead on field by loyal skipper Nick Carnell who is fast approaching 150 games with the club.

The inspirational Carnell has been well supported on field by vice captain’s Ben Clifton and Daniel Venditti, former Collingwood rookie Michael Hartley, Adam Saad, Andrew Sturgess and VFL state representative Lech Featherstone who has kicked 20 goals for the ‘Burgers’ this season.

The match will kick off 2.00pm at Piranha Park (Coburg City Oval) and 2014 Geelong Members can gain entry for $5.00.
For all Cats fans that cannot get to Piranha Park, the match will be tweeted live, so follow @GeelongVFL on Twitter for all the action including live scores, stats updates and photos.
