Gary Ablett says his competitive streak will surface tomorrow night when he plays his first game in Geelong since moving to the Gold Coast Suns.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m pumped.

“I almost always tip Geelong in the footy tips, not tomorrow. That competitive edge in me will ensure I stop at nothing to get us a victory over my old teammates.”

Writing in his column for the Gold Coast Bulletin, Ablett stated he would love to share a special Gold Coast Suns moment in Geelong in front of his family and friends.

“It’s been three years since I’ve played in Geelong. My entire family, friends and my girlfriend are going to be there.

“I can’t wait to catch up with my old teammates who I shared such great times with and to see my mates that I don’t get to see as much as I’d like.

“I still love Geelong and always will. That’s why I’ve really been looking forward to this game.”

Ablett, who will play game number 50 for the Suns tomorrow night, admitted it had been strange not pulling on the blue and white hoops for three years.

“Tomorrow will be different though. I’m a Gold Coast Sun. I’m looking forward to putting on our guernsey and building on the growth we’ve made this year.”

With the Gold Coast Suns developing as the weeks go on, they are now sitting in 12th position with a 4-5 record, a vast improvement on their first two years where they won just three games each season.

Ablett admitted it has been tough to endure so many losses over the past three years.

“I’m such a competitive person, I always have been. I accept nothing less than a win.

“Coping with that was a real challenge for me. It’s something I hadn’t been used to and I battled with it a touch.

“I never took one win for granted at Geelong. At the same time, winning premierships was the benchmark for a year. Anything less we has come up short. That’s why this weekend isn’t about me.”
