Dissatisfied effort
Andrew Mackie speaks to Cats TV after another shock loss interstate
Yesterday the Cats weren’t able to complete what they started and slipped away from a five-goal lead in the third quarter to 14-points in the last.
The Crows saw the light at the end of the tunnel and took every chance they had to reach the end.
Cats' defender Andrew Mackie, who gathered 20 disposals and four tackles during yesterday's shock defeat, said the Crows blocked the Cats from directing play and fought hard for every contest.
“Once again we gave up the lead and we weren’t able to do the things that we wanted to do and we got beaten all over the field in the last half and it was a disappointing finish to the game,” Mackie told Cats TV.
According to Mackie the Cats didn’t increase the pressure on the ball or take the time to read the play when they needed to, allowing the Crows to take jump in the front seat.
“(We didn’t execute) smart-play when we had the ball and we got beaten around the contest. (Adelaide) were able to spread from the contest better than us,” Mackie said.
The weather created many difficulties for both teams, however, Mackie was adamant that it was the Cats’ poor performance that let them slip.
“Yeah it was windy and swirly but that is no excuse we should enjoy that stuff and the contest, unfortunately we got beaten in a few too many.”
In the end the Cats’ lost their intensity as well as the ball, which allowed the Crows to cause havoc in their goal square.
“They scored too easily at times and that’s probably what we’ve got to get out of the game and get back to being all over the ground and stopping, running and scoring,” Mackie explained.
“We’ve got to finish our work and we’re not doing that but as I said that’s for us to work on as we go forward.”
