Cats TV spoke to young Cat, Cam Guthrie, after Geelong defeated the Suns on their home stage at Simonds Stadium.
Saturday night’s clash was Guthrie’s 26th AFL game, however this time around he was given a very different view of the ground.
The running defender was switched from the back to the frontline, where he enjoyed the roar of the crowd after kicking two impressive goals.
“I think the coaches just wanted to expose me to a new area where I hadn’t really played much footy before,” Guthrie said.
“That was a really good experience and maybe another time during the year I’ll do that again.”
As well as spending time in a new position, Guthrie was also set another challenge and that was to take on one of the best players in the competition, the Suns’ skipper, Gary Ablett.
“Yeah he’s a tough match up definitely, he kicked a great goal on me and was pretty unbelievable and he was great again tonight.”
Guthrie says the Cats are improving their game plan each week and he’s confident they’ll have it down to a fine art by the time finals come around.
“Yeah I think so, I think we’re improving each week and that’s all we need to do really, by finals time we should hopefully be hitting our straps and hopefully take it from there.”
Next week the Cats fly up to Sydney to take on the Giants at Skoda Stadium. Whilst the Giants have experienced a slow start to the season, Guthrie says no AFL contest is a walk in the park.
“There is no easy game in the AFL, we won’t be taking them lightly at all and we’ll go up there looking to play our best footy,” Guthrie told Cats TV.
