Cats defender Harry Taylor says curbing the influence of Hawks ruckman David Hale could be a key to winning Monday's blockbuster clash.

Hale, who has played 44 games for the Hawks since crossing from North Melbourne, had his best year in the ruck in 2012, registering 547 hitouts.

With the Cats going into Monday's clash with potentially two rookies filling the ruck roles, Taylor see shutting Hale down as one of the Cats most important tasks.
