Cats TV caught up with Geelong’s re-signed star, Harry Taylor, for this week’s Opposition Breakdown, where he took a closer look at St Kilda’s Ben McEvoy.

According to Harry Taylor McEvoy, who debuted in 2008 for St Kilda, has the potential to overturn the ball with his craftsmanship in the ruck and his overall defensive pressure across the field.

Along with his intensity in defence the 200cm ruckman also has numerous tricks that can put the Saints back in the game.

Taylor’s main concern with McEvoy is his ability to win high grabs in a heavy contest.

“He is a very good over-head marking player, averaging five marks a game at the moment and he has done that for the last three years,” Taylor said.

The other aspect of McEvoy’s game that worries Taylor is his tenacity to win the ball and his hungry apatite in the goal square.

“He’s able to get back in defence and help out his defenders really well and he can also push forward to kick goals for the Saints.”

Taylor says the only way to combat McEvoy’s key strengths is to smother his ability to jump and find the ball, keeping him out of play as much as possible.

“It’s really important that who ever is on him at different stages of the game give an absolute 100% contest because that is what Benny McEvoy is known for, just going in there and getting the ball and giving it everything at every single game.”
