Last night the Geelong Cats hosted more than 505 guests at The Pier to raise funds for former VFL player and South Barwon player and co-coach, Casey Tutungi, who has been left a quadriplegic after an on-field incident on June 22, 2013.

Together Geelong Cats players and coaches, officials and the community dug deep into their pockets and volunteered their assistance in support for Casey and his family.

The evening was hosted by the voice of the AFL and Australian sport, Craig Willis, who volunteered his time, along with many other entertainers and officials, including;

-          The Premier, the Honourable Dr Denis Napthine
-          Member for South Barwon, Andrew Katos MP
-          President Geelong Cats, Colin Carter
-          Geelong Cats Vice President Gareth Andrews
-          Geelong Cats Director Bob Gartland and wife Phillipa
-          Mark Wilson from the Australian rock band JET
-          Phil De Fegley, Auctioneer

Other important volunteers, who rallied together and gave up their time, resources and equipment to make the event possible, included The Pier’s venue, waiters and suppliers along with staff from Geelong Cats.

The evening comprised of a raffle, auction and silent auction, which alone raised over $100,000. All items were donated from various community organisations and other AFL clubs, which was largely initiated by the South Barwon Football Club.

Casey’s father and mother, Chris and Carol, were sincerely thankful for everyone’s generosity and kindness. Chris, who was overwhelmed with all the support that their son has received during this devastating time, said ‘what a supportive community we live in’.

The Geelong Cats would like to officially thank everyone who has contributed to the Casey Tutungi Foundation, large or small. Last night’s event reiterated how much we can do and achieve when we all come together as one community.

We would also like to thank the Geelong Advertiser for their outstanding support through promotion and awareness of last night’s fundraiser, along with all the other events and initiatives that have taken place. Everyone’s support has been wonderful.

The Geelong Cats will continue to support Casey on his journey. If you wish to donate to the appeal please visit http://www.caseytutungi.com/
