It was a night to remember as Geelong celebrated their milestone men in style with a 37-point win against the Suns.
Tommy stands up for his mates
With the outpouring of support and celebration for Joel Selwood and Gary Ablett last week in the lead up to their milestone game, it wasn’t surprising that Tom Hawkins would turn it on for his two great mates.
Hawkins was immense for the Cats right from the first quarter when he booted two goals. His other goal for the night, a superb grab out of the ruck and snap was Hawkins at his physical best.
By the end of the night he was best-on-ground with 17 disposals, eight marks, three goals and three goal assists. The only thing missing from Hawkins’ night was the opportunity to chair off Selwood.
Cats top of the tree for points
Whilst scoring in the AFL is off great interest at the moment, the Cats are definitely not the side whose scores are drying up.
After scoring 89 points in the shortened quarters on Saturday evening, the Cats are now the number one scoring side in the competition with 394 points for.

By the end of round five last year the Cats had scored 485 points, albeit with 20% longer game time.
Adjusting for the reduction in game time this season, the Cats potentially would have scored 473 points playing at their current output.
The Fortress continues to stand
Taking advantage of his return to the AFL side is Darcy Fort.
After playing round one, Fort missed the Cats next two match ups with Hawthorn and Carlton but has returned and has neutralised two of the game’s top 5 ruckmen in Max Gawn and Jarrod Witts.
Fort’s averages of 23 hit-outs, nine disposals and three clearances per game this year have been more than serviceable for the Cats.
It’s the intangibles by Fort that really stand out too including his ability to follow up at ground level and scrap for the ball.
With Rhys Stanley’s knee injury the Cats now have the ability to see a string of Fort performances.
Esava Ratugolea is also benefitting from Fort’s performance, recording some of his best numbers for the year on the weekend.
Everyone pack their bags
We are now entering the unknown. All clubs will this week play away from their home venue for the first time since the 1950s and all Victorian clubs will head into hubs interstate.
Currently, the Cats have used the second fewest number of players so far in 2020 (27). With multiple games in shorter periods of time the Cats have taken their entire playing list up to NSW and then on to WA.
The decision could point to the Cats wanting to keep the group united or we may see some new faces across the next batch of games.
