Zach Tuohy is hopeful that the Cats will have another opportunity to play Collingwood this season.

“They’re a quality side that I suspect will be there when the whips are cracking and hopefully we get another crack at them in a few months,” Tuohy said speaking to K Rock Football post-game.

Geelong were gallant in their defeat to Collingwood on Thursday night.

After trailing by 20 points in the third quarter, the Cats were able to get within eight points, but Collingwood star Jordan De Goey kicked two late goals to seal the victory for the Pies.

“It was disappointing."

“We gave them a bit of a head start early in the game and they’re a quality side and it was always going to be hard to reign them in from there.

“They have started games really well this year and unfortunately, we gave ourselves too much to do.”

Losing Joel Selwood (hamstring) and Jordan Clark (shoulder) also didn’t help their cause with the Cats down two rotations for a large portion of the game.

“I felt like a few things didn’t go our way,” Tuohy said.

“We lost a couple of players again and that puts a lot of stress particularly on the midfielders, but the backs weren’t getting much rotations either and they are a quality side.

“We were off tonight, no doubt about that, but we got ourselves right back in contention late but they just had a few talented players who stepped up at key moments and if one or two things had gone differently it could have been up our end with a few of our guys doing that, but that’s the nature of the beast."

Geelong now has an 11-day break until their next game against Fremantle on Monday 27 July.
