Geelong’s GM of Football Simon Lloyd has provided an update on the health of Geelong’s list following their Round 7 loss to Collingwood.
Captain Joel Selwood injured his hamstring early in the game against the Pies and played no further part.
“Joel had scans and it was your standard hamstring, so we will treat that clinically,” Lloyd said.
“It is disappointing for Joel, but he has now accepted it for what it is, and he will go through the rehab process and support any of our young players that may get an opportunity going forward.”
Second-year Cat Jordan Clark left the ground during the third quarter with a dislocated shoulder and won’t require surgery.
“He has also had scans and our medical team have made the decision that we won’t need to go through the operation route which is positive.
“Our intention with Jordan that he will return to play at some stage this season.”
“Jordan has worked very hard to get back into the team and it is a real credit to his professionalism, and you can see his ability to break the lines and really add speed to our team and he is a very important player to our future Jordan.”
Lloyd is hopeful Clark’s recovery will be similar to Oscar Brownless’ who has made a speedy return to training from his own shoulder injury.
“Oscar Brownless injured his shoulder not long ago and he is back now training, and we are hopeful it will be a similar situation.
“Oscar made some very speedy progress.”
The news is better for Tom Stewart and Mitch Duncan, with both players likely to return against Fremantle.
“We had a big session yesterday and did a large volume of running and it was high contact as well and Tom completed the entire session.
“Tom is highly likely to be available.”
“With the 11-day turnaround for us we are giving Mitch every opportunity to play, so he has had some good running, hit some high speed and every intention for us is that Mitch Duncan will come into the team against Fremantle Monday week.”
The club is taking a ‘wait and see’ approach with Quinton Narkle and Rhys Stanley.
“The really positive thing at the moment is Quinton has started to run and he will part-train this week, so that’s positive.”
“We are just assessing by the week with Rhys.
“He has been running and change of direction, he has started to get involved in football work as well, so again we will monitor that over the next couple of weeks and see how we go with Rhys.”
Finally, Josh Jenkins is moving well as he recovers from his back complaint.
“He has been doing a lot of running, it has been slow initially but now it is really starting to speed up and he is in a great frame of mind.”
