Geelong’s surprising VFL season came to an end with a 34 point loss to Box Hill in the elimination final at Port Melbourne.

The Cats kicked the opening four goals and were well placed at quarter time before Box Hill took over control of the game in the second quarter.

Box Hill turned a 21 point quarter time deficit into a one point half time advantage, and the Hawks then put the game away with a withering third quarter. Box Hill booted seven goals to the Cats one, and with a 35 point edge at the last change the game was effectively over.

Geelong battled on well in the final term, outscoring the Hawks, however it wasn’t enough to rescue the result.

Skipper James Podsiadly returned after missing the last two games with a knee injury, and he kicked four goals to take his season tally to 68.

Tom Allwright, Ryan Gamble and Tom Lonergan added two majors each.

Ben Raidme was best for the Cats, with Gamble, Podsiadly, Matt Firman, Jeremy Laidler and Taylor Hunt also among the best.
