It has been confirmed that the season of VFL midfielder Ben Raidme is over with scans confirming the 26 year old has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

The prolific ball winner was stretchered off the ground after twisting his knee awkwardly during the final quarter of Friday’s VFL practice match against the North Ballarat Roosters at Simonds Stadium.

After making his VFL debut in 2009, Raidme has been a regular for the VFL Cats, playing 69 senior matches and finishing in the top 10 of the VFL best & fairest on 3 occasions.

Raidme was rewarded for a terrific 2013 season by being named on the wing in the ‘VFL Team of the Year’.

Following the retirements of a number of experienced players within the VFL side, Raidme was seen as a key component of the VFL Cats 2014 leadership structure.

He is expected to undergo a knee reconstruction in coming weeks.
