Cats TV asked Tom Lonergan and VFL captain Troy Selwood if they saw Harry Taylor becoming the ultimate x-factor in the Cats forward line during the heat of the finals?

Lonergan admits that he prefers having the talented defender along the backline with him. Although, he regards Taylor’s flexibility, to work both ends of the ground, as a vital asset to the Cats best 22.

“He’s a terrific player and he has a great overhead mark and if we need him he can go forward… as he’s a great kick for goal and he’s got many strings to his bow,” Lonergan told Cats TV.

Selwood says Taylor, being a key defender, understands how a skillful forward plays their best game and he’s well aware of which actions have the most impact.

“I think as a defender you pick up what forwards like to do or what’s really hard to defend, so when Harry can flip down forward he can then implement what he doesn’t like happening to him and being such a great contested mark really helps as well.”

However, Selwood also believes Taylor’s best work is done in the backline.

“I think he’s most valuable across half-back but if opposition sides goes small and he can flip forward then I think we’re crazy not to use that option,” Selwood said.
