Patrick Dangerfield has created history tonight becoming just the sixth player to have been selected in eight All Australian teams.

Dangerfield joins an elite group comprising of Gary Ablett Snr, Gary Ablett Jnr, Lance Franklin, Robert Harvey and Mark Riccuito.

The 30-year-old has also been given the honour of being named captain after a consistent season rotating between roles in midfield and attack, averaging 21 disposals and kicking 11 goals.

Dangerfield was also highly influential in setting up scoring opportunities for his teammates, finishing the regular season with 19 goal-assists, the equal most in the competition alongside teammate Tom Hawkins who was named at full forward.

It is Hawkins’ third All Australian honour after selection in 2012 and 2019.

Hawkins was the dominant key forward in the game during the regular season kicking 42 goals to win his first Coleman Medal.

He also led the Club for contested marks and was the number one player in the competition for marks on the lead, marks inside 50 and score involvements.

Cameron Guthrie continued his stunning rise this year to receive his first All Australian blazer.

Guthrie elevated his game to new heights this year, leading Geelong’s midfield brigade averaging 22 disposals, four tackles and four clearances per game.

He was ranked 12th during the home and away season for effective disposals, and his two-way running and defensive efforts complimented the attacking styles of Geelong’s other midfielders.

Mark Blicavs and Sam Menegola were named in the initial All Australian 40-man squad and were unlucky not to be named in the final team after producing some brilliant performances this year.

The All Australian selection panel consisted of Gillon McLachlan (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Steve Hocking, Glen Jakovich, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson and Warren Tredrea.
