Excitement machine Steven Motlop’s hitting his straps at the right time as his form continues to rise heading into September.

Motlop had 19 possessions, three tackles, three goals and a serious contender for Mark of the Year, during the Cats 44-point win over the Swans on Saturday.

The highly contested game was full of brutal tackles and constant pressure, to be expected from two such quality sides.
“Obviously we knew they (Sydney) were going to be contested.

“Quality opposition and we wanted to make it a fight early,” Motlop told Cats TV.

Keeping the Swans to their lowest score of the year the likes of Bartel, Taylor and Guthrie were brilliant down back.

“Every time we went into our defensive 50 you would just see Harry all over Kurt (Tippett).

“As good as kicking goals are, you love looking at Harry beating his opponent and he really loves doing that and it lifts the team.”

Swans tagger Nick Smith attempted to shut Motlop down but the miraculous number 32 had all the answers in front of goal.

“He’s a quality defender and he wears you pretty tight but I was lucky to get on the end of a couple.”

Paul Chapman was quick to praise Motlop after the game, saying he has all the attributes of a special player.

“He’s got it all, he’s got the tricks, he can win his own ball, he’s obviously quick, he’s got the hops, smart player, good computer.

“He’s a good kid and he’s a good player.”
