Geelong has welcomed the additional assistance provided by the AFL commission to aid the Cats' AFLW team.
Geelong will receive two additional early first round draft picks and also be able to sign two mature-aged players from the local region. This further enhances the importance of the Cats' VFLW entry, who are among the leading teams in the current season.
“The AFL has been outstanding in understanding the unique position we are in with regard to our women’s program,” Geelong CEO Brian Cook said.
“We have had numerous discussions with the AFL and we are pleased that they have been open-minded. It is important for the game that all clubs field competitive teams to ensure the games are attractive for players, supporters and fans.
“We can now plan for the upcoming draft and player movement period with certainty and look forward to making progress in the coming seasons.”
